This week, we launched our new series, People of the Books, where Rabbi Ninio led a deep, insightful conversation with Julia Levitina about her debut novel, The Girl from Moscow, over a spectacular Russian-themed spread. Thank you to everyone in attendance who made the night so special. Keep an eye on our socials for some beautiful photos from the night. We are busily putting the final touches on the next event and can't wait to share the details with you early next week. For now, you can save the date of Tuesday 23 July.
And, if books are your cup of tea, join us for a cuppa on Sunday 2 June at 4.00 pm as Rabbi Ninio engages refugee advocate Shira Sebban in a discussion about her latest work, Vietnam’s Modern Day Boat People: Bridging Borders for Freedom, delving into themes of resilience, compassion, and human rights. Book here.
On Friday evening, we head west for the first edition of Kol Nefesh in the Inner West. We are just a few spots away from reaching full capacity, so if you haven't already, it's very important that you register here. And, on Sunday 19 May, make sure to drop by the Emanuel Synagogue stall at the Zionist Council of NSW's Yom Ha’atzmaut Festival. Expect games, prizes, free educational resources and snacks. Plus, learn about our programs for kids, teens and young adults, including Ofakim, our freshly launched program designed to empower young Jewish leaders. It's set to be a huge day for the community—register here to join us.
Before you know it, we will all be gathered around for Shirat Ha'lev: A Night of Hebrew Kirtan Chants at Emanuel Synagogue on Saturday 25 May (Lag B'Omer). Musician Nadav Kahn and Emanuel Synagogue's Rabbi George Mordecai (a talented musician in his own right) will introduce us to Hebrew Kirtan—a sacred practice that bridges ancient traditions with contemporary spirituality. Join us as we embrace the beauty of community, the power of music, and the promise of renewal for the week ahead. Learn more and book here.
We are taking this opportunity to introduce youth pricing for all of our ticketed programs, starting with Shirat Ha'lev, where we are offering $30 tickets for the under 30s. Help us to spread the word, and join us in ensuring that the next generation remains at the centre of the conversation.
And, immediately following Shirat Ha'lev, we invite 18-30 year olds to join us for Tamar Lag B'Omer a relaxed gathering around a campfire with snacks, drinks and marshmallows to roast. Alcoholic drinks are BYO. Learn more and register here.
This Shabbat, we pray for a reunion of the hostages with their families, an end to the war, and healing for our community. May peace come quickly.
Shabbat shalom.
