Rabbi Zwarenstein at the Steyne Park Anzac wreath-laying ceremony.
With Pesach well underway, we want to thank everyone who has been attending services and seders this year for making them so memorable. What a lucky community we are to be so connected. Keep an eye on Facebook and Instagram for some special moments from Rabbi Ninio's always incredible women's seder, and catch up on other Pesach content.
This evening, we invite you to join us for our annual Anzac Shabbat service. As we will be combining our Progressive and Masorti services, we will not be streaming this on emanuelplus. We look forward to commemorating this important occasion with you on campus from 6.15 pm in the Heritage Sanctuary.
Today, we are delighted to launch a new strand in our cultural offering that celebrates Jewish literary voices: People of the Books. To kick off the series, Rabbi Ninio will lead author Julia Levitina in a conversation that explores the inspiration of her debut novel, 'The Girl from Moscow'. Join us on Tuesday 14 May from 7.00 pm for thought-provoking discussion, light refreshments and an opportunity to meet Julia and has her sign your book. Spots are strictly limited – book here ASAP. Tickets to this make the perfect gift for Mother's Day.
Later that same week, we will be celebrating the inaugural edition of another of our programs: Kol Nefesh in the Inner West. Join us Friday 17 May. Find details under Regular Programs below and please register your attendance here. As is Kol Nefesh tradition, the service will be followed by a vegetarian potluck dinner—bring a plate and bring a friend. In the meantime, please join us for the next Kol Nefesh at Emanuel Synagogue on Friday 3 May.
This Shabbat we are reminded that our people are resilient and that it's in our DNA to overcome and to survive. We know that this time is trying, but we also know that we will get through it. We pray for the healing of our community, a peaceful end to the war and the safe return of the hostages.
Shabbat shalom and chag Pesach kasher vesame’ach.

SHABBAT CHOL HAMO'ED PESACH RABBI SAM ZWARENSTEIN
The Haftarah for Shabbat Chol HaMo’ed Pesach is taken from the Book of Ezekiel and contains the prophecy that is more widely known as “Valley of the Dry Bones.”

In the verses that follow, Ezekiel interacts with God in the prophecy where Ezekiel is instructed to prophesy over the resurrection of those bones to come together bone to matching bone, followed by the growing of sinew, flesh and skin. Even though the bodies had been fully formed, they still had no breath. Continue reading
