250 years of Beethoven: Beethoven and his deafness Wednesday 28 October 10:00am to 11:00am
Presented by Andy Bromberger as part of the 250 years of Beethoven series, this session explores Beethoven and his deafness. It is often asked how a composer like Beethoven could have written such fulfilling music without hearing it. Instead, the question which should be asked is - what effect; mentally, physically and creatively, did going deaf have on a composer of Beethoven’s stature. These included suicidal thoughts, often difficult interpersonal relationships, the conversation books and the Heiligenstadt Testament. Most importantly though is the impact it had on his music.
