Zikaron BaSalon - Remembering the Holocaust

Tuesday, 6 April, 2021 24 Nisan 5781

6:30 PM - 8:00 PMEmanuel Synagogue

Zikaron BaSalon is a unique style of event and provides an intimate and engaging way to commemorate the holocaust. Listen first hand to a survivor telling their story. For one night, engage with special memories – in a way you never have before.

Join us and hear Holocaust survivor Peter Reisman discuss his experiences prior, during and after World War II. This event is a special opportunity to hear about Peter’s story of survival, and to ask any questions that you may have.

During the war, Peter hid in a bunker in a house just outside of Budapest, Hungary, with his mother, another woman and her young daughter. They were sheltered by a Christian family who had been friends with Peter’s mother. In total they spent approximately 12 months in hiding. Peter’s mother had become pregnant before his father was taken and she gave birth to Peter’s sister on the day of liberation.

“For 12 months we stayed hidden in a dark bunker, forbidden from making a sound. This was particularly difficult for a naughty four-year-old. They had to bribe me to be good by promising a spoon full of apricot jam at the end of each day. After liberation, we emerged from hiding and I looked up and saw the sun. I’ll never forget what that felt like.”

This is a special in-person event at Emanuel Synagogue. Please register below: numbers are strictly limited.
