High Holy Days for 20-Somethings

You are invited to join Tamar, Emanuel's vibrant community of Jews in their 20s and early 30s, to celebrate the High Holy Days. In addition to the Synagogue's main services, we will have dedicated offerings for young adults. Join us for Tashlich by the Water, a deep dive on Yom Kippur and a special commemoration of October 7 followed by live music for Simchat Torah.

Tashlich by the water
Kick off the new year with our Tashlich Picnic - a chance to connect with other young Jews as we share great food, conversation, and the meaningful tradition of Tashlich. Together, we’ll symbolically cast away the past year’s burdens and make space for renewal. Starting with a walk from Emanuel Synagogue after services at around 1.30 pm, we’ll gather by the water for a relaxed and uplifting afternoon of community, reflection, and celebration. Thursday, October 3, 1.45 pm - 3.45 pm
Centennial Park, Model Yacht Pond (we will walk from Emanuel after services at around 1.30 pm)

Yom Kippur Deep Dive: From Vengeance to Compassion
We will explore ideas of justice and revenge in our liturgy, and classical and contemporary Jewish texts to unpack and discuss the themes of Yom Kippur and see how they connect to our lives. Expect unfiltered discussion and thought-provoking texts. It’s the perfect space to reflect and recharge as we prepare for the year ahead.
Saturday, October 12, 3:00 - 4.00 pm

October 7 Reflections and Simchat Torah Celebrations
One Jewish year since October 7, we invite you to a reflective gathering for young adults to reflect on this significant moment in Jewish life. After an open, unfiltered discussion, we’ll join the broader community for a special Simchat Torah service commemorating those we’ve lost. Together, we’ll then transition into a night of live music with musicians from Chutney, dancing with the Torah, and celebrating our resilience. Embracing the spirit of the Nova survivors' message, 'We Will Dance Again,' this evening is about honouring the past while joyfully affirming the strength of our Jewish future.
Thursday, October 24, Reflections from 5.15 pm - 6.15 pm, Simchat Torah 6.15 pm until late.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to Avishai if you have any questions.
