Attending services at Emanuel

With the continued lifting of government restrictions in NSW, we are delighted that we can resume Shabbat services for our community in person.

We will be holding the following services:

  1. Masorti Kabbalat Shabbat at 5:45PM, an earlier time during July and August.
  2. Shabbat Live beginning at 6:15PM, which will be live-streamed. Click here to see streamed services.
  3. Progressive morning service at 10:00am.
  4. Masorti morning service at 10:00am.

All services, including approval for attendance, will follow all government requirements and health advice. They will be limited to a maximum of 100 people, due to the continuing four-square metres per person requirement.  They will be abridged, without communal singing. During services, you must also wear mask or face shield.

You must pre-register by 11:00am on Friday  morning to attend services on Shabbat by clicking here for Friday night or here for Saturday morning. Should more than 100 people wish to attend any given service, we have created a fair and equitable process for acceptance. We will let you know by midday on Friday whether we can accommodate you on the upcoming Shabbat. We encourage anyone who has been unwell at all or is in a risk category to continue to pray from the safety of their home for the time being.  People who have been overseas or in Victoria in the last 14 days will not be permitted.

Once your registration is approved, plan on arriving about 30 minutes before the beginning of the service time.  We look forward to welcoming you, confirming your registration and taking your temperature to ensure its under 37.5 degrees.

After you have been admitted, you will be guided to a station where you can sanitise your hands before proceeding to your assigned seat. Siddurim will be provided (and sanitised between services), but please bring your own tallit and kippa, as they will not be provided. During services, you must also wear mask or face shield; we will supply one if required.

For the time being, there will be some precautionary differences in these services - there will be no Torah procession; aliyot will be standing in place, not at the bimah;  social distancing will be maintained, there will be no Kiddush and we all will need to leave after the conclusion of services without socialising. Nevertheless, we can still all celebrate Shabbat together.

We will continue to live stream our Shabbat Live service on Friday evening and stream the Shabbat Embrace service on Saturday morning. We appreciate your understanding at this time of transition and look forward to seeing you virtually or in person for one of our services.
