Shavuot is on the other side of this long weekend and the response to our Tikkun Leil Shavuot, Navigating the Nuance, and the dedicated offering for teens and young adults, Recaliming the Torah as Modern Jews (watch this special message from our Youth Engagement Officer, Avishai Conyer), has been overwhelmingly positive. We are now down to the very last spots, so if you plan to join us, please register by Sunday 9 June so we can make final arrangements for security and catering. Below you can find details about all our other Shavuot offerings, including the induction of our newest board members at our Erev Shavuot service—please join us in officially welcoming them.
This afternoon, bring your little ones to a special Shavuot-themed ShabbaTot from 4.30 pm. Register here to save your spot.
Being that this Monday is a public holiday, some of our usual offerings are taking a short break. Please refer to the Regular Programs section below for details on what's running during the week and the Special Programs section for details on office closures during Shavuot.
Last week, we mentioned the momentous occasion of Rabbi Jacquleline Ninio's prayer for peace at Israel's 76th Independence Day celebration. We are now pleased to share the video with you—watch on Instagram and Facebook. We are so proud of Rabbi Ninio, who is the first non-Orthodox rabbi and the first female rabbi to be invited to do this.
Speaking of Rabbi Ninio, we're looking forward to the next instalment of our People of the Books series, which we announced earlier this week and tickets are already selling fast. On Tuesday 23 July, Rabbi Ninio will be engaging writer Nadine J. Cohen in a deep, probably hilarious and definitely insightful discussion about her highly acclaimed debut novel, Everyone and Everything. Book here ASAP.
And, in case you missed it, watch this highly classified video of Rabbi Ninio and Rabbi Kamins' Senior Rabbi handover and Rabbi Kamins' farewell message.
There's a lot on offer to our community over the next few weeks. Be sure to scroll down to the Around Town section to learn where you can hear a special musical composition inspired by Rabbi Ninio, see the full lineup for Limmud Oz, which includes two Emanuel Synagogue rabbis and a stack of our brilliant conregants, and heaps more.
Finally, as the crisis in Israel continues, please join or renew your membership with ARZA Australia and Mercaz Masorti, two organisations dedicated to safeguarding our progressive values at the World Zionist Congress in Israel.
And, the wellbeing of our community locally is just as important. With the end of the financial year fast approaching, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to our EOFY Appeal to ensure that we can continue to support you with services, pastoral care, the diverse, impactful programs you know and love, and so much more. Every contribution counts. Donate here.
This Shabbat, we pray for peace, harmony and healing across all communities.
Shabbat shalom.
