DEVARIM - CHAZON RABBI JACQUELINE NINIO
This week, we begin to read the book of Devarim, the book of words, as Moses gives his last speech to the Children of Israel. He knows he will not complete the journey he has begun, and he will die before he reaches the Promised Land. He has one final opportunity to reflect on the journey he and they have taken, and to give them wisdom for the time ahead. In order to understand the future, he looks to the past, he considers the trials and tribulations, the mistakes and the triumphs, the moments of tragedy and celebration. Moses reflects on what the journey teaches them, what they will learn to help them move forward, without their leader. Moses and the Israelites wrest meaning from all the moments they can, they learn the lessons and they begin to understand how it has shaped who they are and who they will become.
We extend our sincerest sympathies to those in our community who are mourning the death of their loved ones and we grieve the loss of so many lives in the current war in the land of Israel.
SHLOSHIM Eva Lowy, Martin Sean Indyk, Lawrence Harwin, Yvonne Hayes, Angela Kaplin, Julia Faludi, Sonia Gold, Sheila Norton, Dawn Rassaby, Theo Whitmont.
YAHRZEIT On the anniversary of the death of a loved one, Yahrzeit (annual remembrance) is observed by their relatives. Every year, in the lead up to this day, we will contact you to advise that your loved one's name will be read on the Shabbat before the Yahrzeit.
We invite you to arrange a call up to the Torah in memory of your loved one by completing the form at the link provided in the reminder email.
