SIMCHAT TORAH & OCTOBER 7 REFLECTIONS AT EMANUEL SYNAGOGUE

Thursday 24 October 2024
From 6.15 pm
Mille Phillips Sanctuary

This year, Simchat Torah will challenge us to both commemorate and celebrate, to find joy, even as we remember the unfolding of events last year at this time. We will gather for our services, where we will pause for some time of reflection, praying for the return of the hostages, an end to the conflict, war and loss of life. We will remember all those whose lives have been taken and the horrors of October 7th, Simchat Torah, last year. Then, as we have done throughout our history, we will try and hold onto hope, turn to life and celebrate the survival of our people, the life and light that Judaism and the Torah bring to our lives and world. We will call all the children to the Torah and offer them a blessing, we will honour our Chatan Torah and Kallat Bereishit and then we will dance with the Torah. We will celebrate, remember and embrace life, the tragedy turning us to one another in support and hope.

Together with the group of Tamar young adults and Netzer teens who will be starting the afternoon with dedicated programs, we’ll transition from the service into a night of live music featuring our incredible Shabbat Live musicians, dancing with the Torah, and celebrating our resilience. Embracing the spirit of the Nova survivors' message—we will dance again—this evening is about honouring the past while joyfully affirming the strength of our Jewish future.

A light supper will be served by Nora's Kitchen.
